Can you believe this fall weather?
We have been loving the weather this past week. We've enjoyed a few extra minutes outside breathing in the fresh air and looking for signs of erosion, weathering and deposition. We are working in the computer lab this week to create poster projects about each of these. Students have been excited to show what they know.
What's Coming:
Math- We are beginning to explore data. We will be working with line plots and bar graphs specifically next week. Thanks for signing up through signup genius to help bring in supplies for our activities. I know it will be fun and memorable. Some ideas that you could use at home to help support this week's activities include:
* Finding Data in the Media - as you are reading the newspaper, watching the news, looking through magazines point out various graphs and charts to your child. Discuss what the graph's main idea is. Analyze the data presented in the graph. Discuss labels and titles and where they are located.
* Talk about likelihood, chance and probability.
Reading-
We are working on character development and plot. As your child is reading this week ask them to describe the character using character traits. Have them support their answers with details from the text. We are getting ready to move into talking about plot. Encourage your child to identify the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution in their reading.
We are continuing to work on their narrative writing piece. They are writing a true story about themselves. If they can say it, they can write it. Encourage your child to talk to you about their story. Ask them to give you strong verbs and powerful sentences to strengthen the story.
Science-
We will continue our research on weathering, erosion and deposition. We are making poster projects next week. If you would like to send anything in for them to use on their projects I am fine with that. (special markers, paper, materials, dirt in baggies) Encourage them to be creative. These posters will be a team project, so they must be completed here at school.
I hope you are all able to enjoy this weekend despite the cold weather. I am headed to Liberal, MO for a birthday party. I will see you all on Monday.
Working together,
Emalie Lindsey
